NIMBY's Get Their Just Dessert – More Density

You have to think the NIMBY's that opposed the resurrection of the Matador as a small assembly hall with a liquor license for 14 years are kicking themselves now.

Instead of the building being retained, now they're going to get what should live in that location – a mid-rise residential condo building. Should have taken option one folks, as I'm sure they're going to be screaming about this option.

Given Toronto's lack of housing stock, there is a need for higher density housing options. A six-storey, 30-unit building steps from the College Street streetcar makes complete sense. The only way to address Toronto's affordability is by creating more housing stock - or kill immigration and the city’s economy.

Infill projects like this make sense. They are close to transit infrastructure, are built to scale in existing neighbourhoods, and create more housing options in those communities. This is exactly what Toronto needs more of.

No doubt it will be sad to lose the historic Matador with its legendary tales of Toronto's music history, but that dream disappeared when the NIMBY's got their way last time. Let's hope that doesn't happen again.
